I have 3 LED lights outside my home being controlled by this switch. The patio LED light is 11W and the 2 garage lights are 20W total. So, 31W and this things works like a charm. I know it says it can’t handle LED bulbs and under 40W, but thats not the case. One thing I recommend: USE a multimeter to find out which wire on your switch is hot! They’re cheap and some come with a notification that says “LIVE” on the display for those that aren’t comfortable using one. I was able to determine that the lower wire on my old switch was hot. This will save you from burning out the switch and using it as a paper weight. Also if you have your lights on a SINGLE switch, thats a SINGLE-POLE. Take the two wires labeled “C” and “2” and combine them with your HOT wire in the wall (so you’ll have 3 wires combined). Make sure you cap and I like to wrap them with electrical tape (old school). The other wire on the switch is labeled “1” is for your remaining neutral. It’s that simple.Hope this helps, let’s see how long it lasts. This product does not require a ground and if you have a home with older wiring (1920 cloth in some cases for me) it still can be installed. Many products require modern wiring to work, but this does not. This works. Be sure to read programming instructions step by step. Overall, very pleased. Would prefer more choices of color.I love this little thing. I bought one to see how the install went and overall use. After a short period of time (hours) I went and bought three more. Yes, I have four of them installed at various locations in areas where adding a dusk-to-dawn light to the exterior just didn't make sense. I purchased this specific model as it doesn't need the third common wire for some reason all these manufacturers thinks are everywhere. Of course, because of this, the display isn't back-lit and can be a bit difficult to see. I would've enjoyed having the ability to lighten/darken the text (change contrast) but honestly I'm not sure there are enough buttons or room on the unit to do that.Programming is pretty easy. The instructions explain this process very well. The unit is not overly bulky. I easily fit it into the box even with two wire connectors. This includes boxes with multiple switches. The one 'easy to use' star loss: sometimes it can be difficult to override the auto and manually turn the light on. You do this by simply hitting the big square. I have at least one unit where I can't just hit the center of the big square (which depresses four spots under each corner of the big square). I have to specifically hit a corner. Not a big deal at all as I expect to keep these in Auto mode 99.999% of the time; just a quirk. Add this to the inability to change contrast of text and it's not quite 5 stars ease of use.I'd buy it again but I'm already full up on these!Originally I purchased the I had Leviton's program timer in my previous house. Now I moved to an older house, the Leviton's program timer doesn't work... This Honeywell works without a neutral wire. Good!Compare to Leviton's timer, this Honeywell is cheaper made, especially the switch door. But once you set up, you don't need to touch again. So it is not a big issue for me.Program setup was very easy.Installation was very easy.I didn't know the terms of the words in the manual. So here is my note.C: Common wire = Neutral1: Load wire2: Line wire = Hot/Live wireGround wire, I just grounded in my metal box.I will check if the programming goes well tonight, and I will order two more (^o^)bUpdate: September 16, 2021I received two more. Both didn't work... I can see the power on the switch side wire, but it didn't work. I think that the button has a problem. I requested the exchange. I hope that the next two will work well. (*_*)Increasing from 3 to 4 stars as it has been working great since I installed it. Reason I didn't give it 5 stars are the flimsy wires and poor instructions. However if you have a single pole switch read further for instructions in how to install it.I'm using it to control my Christmas lights outside, which includes the lights around the eavesdrops and 5 Christmas light nets on top of the bushes. It also controls the indoor lights in our Christmas tree and Christmas village on top of the piano. All using LED lights. No issues thus far.I like that it comes with a default 24 hours clock - am/pm is more succestible to errors in my opinion - but you can switch to this mode if you want. You can add 7 programs to it, but I'm just using one for all the days of the week from 17:00hs (on) to 02:00hs (off).I found the wires to be very flimsy and the instructions very basic. Mind you my timer came with 3 wires - all black - labelled 1, 2 and C and no neutral wire. The instructions weren't very clear and the diagram was only slightly better. So I took a chance connecting them and took a step back as I powered the electric panel switch.Because I've my Christmas lights on a single pole switch I connected wires 2 and C to the line (aka hot or main wire) and wire 1 to the load and it worked just fine.So for the folks that are not familiar: The line (aka hot or main wire) is the one carrying the electric current. To find out which wire is the line use a "voltage detector tester" before you switch off the control panel. If it goes off you found it. You can get one of this tester for $20.00 right here on Amazon and if you have a home, you definetily should have one.I've bought this type of timer before and it's easy to use except for one thing. The display is really small and not very brightly lit. So I need to have my reading glasses on and a flashlight to program it LOL! OK--that's not entirely a product shortcoming, but, if the display were better backlit that would make it easier. The price was far better than a Westek model that I bought--the Westek didn't work which is why I bought this Honeywell model again.Obsolete system that only works with incandescent bulbs that don't exist anymore. It is a serial installed timer on the phase of the circuit and cannot be used for anything else. You can find on Amazon better products at $20 that do LED and CFL up to 1800W no minimum restriction. This is maximum 500W incandescent minimum 40W. Don't buy! This is useless junk and should not be on Amazon not in any other stores Will return mine immediately.I was a little hesitant to buy this- there was debate in the comments about wires 1, 3, and a C with no clear instructions, whether it would or not work with LED bulbs, hard to program. Pshhhht! This was a breeze to install- C and 2 to the hot, 1 to the load, no neutral. It works. Replaced the filament bulbs (3) with LED bulbs, it works fine, no flickering. Programming was easy, I set on/off each day the same so cycle through the days until all days light up, done! the best part? The cover is also an on-off switch! Push once for on, push again for an override off! Without it changing the program. Only small complaint, it is hard to see the screen, no backlight that I see, so I used a small flashlight to see it. Other than that, this is perfect! Now my outdoor lights are on timer where it was previously a square switch indoors. Would buy again!
